How does the course approaches teaching Thai reading and writing?
This course is unique. Unlike most courses that aim to teach a person to read and write Thai, we go a step further. We believe that there is little point of being able to read and write Thai if you are unable to pronounce the word you are reading or writing correctly. To pronounce a Thai word correctly you need to be able to:-
a) Pronounce the consonant at the beginning of the word correctly.
b) Pronounce the vowel correctly.
c) Pronounce the vowel length correctly (short or long).
d) Pronounce the consonant at the end of the word correctly (if it has one).
e) Pronounce the word tone correctly
To do this you need to be able to read Thai and fully understand and apply the language rules that apply to any given word. You also need to know what a word sounds like and how to say the word. This can only be learnt by hearing each word you read and write, something our Thai audio provides. There is currently only one sure way to ensure that you have all this knowledge and ability; this course.
- We teach you what the consonants and vowels look like.
- We give you writing practice so that you can write them.
- We show you what each consonant and vowel sounds like.
- We teach you our simple to follow system for determining the tone of any word.
- We train you to be able to accurately, comfortably, and confidently project the tone of any word (high, low, mid, rising or falling).
- We teach you how Thai words and sentences are written and how to accurately read them.
- We give you exercises to practice writing and develop your reading skills.
- We fully cover language anomalies and exceptions and give clear guidance on how to deal with these. You will also learn key skills such as how to identify words with unwritten vowels (and what those vowel sounds are) and words in which have muted vowel sounds.
In short, you will learn in a simple step by step process how to read, write and speak the Thai words you are reading and writing. It will enable you to correctly pronounce the words you learn in Thai language books and enable you to build your language and vocabulary skills independent of any book (such as using Thai- English dictionaries, reading Thai books etc.).
